Over the past twelve months, newcomers ODEZSA have exponentially grown with their fresh, chill wave sound. It’s now the end of the year, and the Seattle native’s continue to dominate the nostalgic, chill side of the EDM movement.
Consisting of collegiate peers Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight, the two began creating music in 2012. Collaborating at the end of their senior year at Western Washington University, ODESZA released their first LP; Summer’s Gone, on September 5th, 2012.
Their prime official EP, My Friends Never Die, was released almost a year later, putting the dyad on the map and catching the attention of Pretty Lights, who booked ODESZA to open the Analog Future Tour in the fall of 2013. Although their name derives from Mill’s uncle’s ship that tragically sank, the two have a full blast of wind in their sails, with 2014 being their most successful year thus far – and they aren’t slowing down.
Their latest album, In Return released under Counter Records, boosted the dynamic duo into the ring alongside EDM’s up and coming DJ dominators. So what is ODEZSA’s latest feat? 5-time Grammy nominee SIA’s new single, “Big Girls Cry”. The two keep with their chill sounds, complementing the tunes’ lyrics with slow, harmonious synths and a melodic bass, sounding a bit like chill master, Flume.
ODESZA has the unique ability to remix virtually any song and making it unmistakably their own. Premiering on Entertainment Weekly, their remix has already secured a #1 spot on the Hype Machine popular chart, making this their 19th track to reach this position – simply incredible.
The ODEZSA team truly possesses the power to reach the top of the garage and indie chill charts on the EDM scene. Their style is one similar to others in this genre; but, with their unique ability to take any songs and create a completely different sound all their own, ODESZA continues their legacy of standing out amongst the masses of aspiring superstars. In order to show fans how truly dedicated they are to their trade and what it takes to rise to stardom with such haste, ODEZSA has now releasing their documentary, “In Return: Home”, premiered by KEXP, that can be watched now here!
